Attorney/Author John Contini to Appear on TBN's "Praise the Lord"

(March 24, 2006) -- Noted Florida defense attorney John Contini will appear on the March 27th edition of the Trinity Broadcasting Network's "Praise the Lord" program to talk about his recently completed book Danger Road: A True Crime Story of Murder and Redemption. The book recounts Contini's 1991 defense of former Miami-Dade police officer Gilbert Fernandez, who was charged with the execution-style murders nearly ten years earlier of three suspected drug dealers in a remote part of the Florida Everglades.

"John Contini has gained a reputation over the years as one of the most capable and effective defense attorneys in America," said Susan Zahn, president of the Christian public relations firm WDC Media, which represents Contini. "Danger Road highlights one of John's most high-profile cases, and in the process shows how God's mercy can triumph over the most hopeless and dire of circumstances."

Unrelated to the Fernandez case, Contini noted that he is often asked how he can defend those he knows are guilty of crimes, an issue he will discuss on the upcoming program. "It's not the healthy who need a physician," he explained. "It's the person who is shunned and ostracized by society who we ought to help, and treat with compassion and mercy. After all, we must demonstrate forgiveness if we want to be forgiven for the mistakes we have made in this life."

Being compassionate, however, does not mean setting a convicted criminal free, Contini added. "Criminals can be forgiven, and still go to prison," he said. "But that doesn't negate God's requirement that we respond with His mercy to all individuals. After all, Jesus forgave the criminal hanging next to Him on the cross."

"Danger Road is going to have people talking about some of the most vital issues facing society today," predicted Zahn, "issues like justice, mercy, repentance, and redemption. I think we'll be hearing a lot about this book and its author John Contini."
